About the Founder
Inspired by his entrepreneurial friends, colleagues, and clients, Rod Sorensen founded Sorensen Law Group, P.C. in order to provide more personalized and tailored services.
For more than 25 years Mr. Sorensen has counseled employers on issues arising under state and federal employment laws and litigation avoidance. He also advises employers regarding the protection of proprietary information, drafting compensation and severance packages, and the review of employment policies.
Mr. Sorensen also specializes in all types of employment litigation, including wage and hour, trade secrets, wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, and sexual harassment in state and federal court proceedings, administrative hearings, mediation and arbitration. He has successfully defended employers against numerous employee claims of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, defamation and wrongful termination. Mr. Sorensen also has obtained injunctive relief against employees for misappropriation of proprietary information, and secured summary judgment/adjudication in favor of employers in a multitude of cases, including class action wage and hour litigation, wrongful termination and disability discrimination. He has obtained multiple verdicts on behalf of employers in arbitrations and hearings before the California Labor Commissioner, and has obtained multiple workplace violence temporary restraining orders and injunctions.
Mr. Sorensen was an Editor of the Santa Clara University Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board. He received the American Jurisprudence Award for his outstanding achievement in Contracts. He also was an Emery Merit Scholarship recipient.
Prior to forming Sorensen Law Group, P.C., Mr. Sorensen was the Managing Partner of the Silicon Valley office of Payne & Fears. Prior to that, he was a Partner in the employment law department of the global law firm DLA Piper.

E*Trade Fin. Corp. v. Pospisil, 2018 WL 4205401 (N.D. Ill. 2018) (temporary restraining order issued to protect employer’s proprietary information).
Life Technologies Corp. v. Superior Court, 197 Cal.App.4th 640 (2011) (plaintiff seeking confidential information from employer in discovery must show particularized need essential to determining the truth of the matters in dispute).
Tamburina v. Combined Ins. Co., 147 Cal.App.4th 323 (2007) (trial court failed to rule on whether plaintiff had exercised the reasonable diligence necessary to avoid dismissal of plaintiff’s case).
